This meeting is designed for a variety of clinicians, researchers, resident physicians, fellows and students from a wide range of disciplines including gastroenterology, neurology, otolaryngology, radiology, speech-language pathology, nutrition, biomedical engineering, dentistry, pediatrics, psychology and basic sciences, who take care of patients with swallowing disorders, including aspiration, and/or conduct research on patients with swallowing disorders.
Different formats were chosen, based on the target audience for that particular activity. For example, didactic lectures were chosen for disseminating an established set of new information that needed to be conveyed to the entire membership in a uniform manner. For areas of controversy, a point-counterpoint discussion between thought leaders with divergent viewpoints were developed, with time for input by the audience. Akin to this, each session is moderated by an expert that will be directing questions to the panel and integrating responses from the participants to stimulate in-depth discussion at the end of each section. Using these varied educational methods will increase the likelihood of achieving the objectives and desired results.
